<p>皆さんは、LGBTQ+という言葉を耳にされたことがありますか？ 最近メディア等で取り上げられているLGBTQ+は、性的少数者を表す言葉であり、５つの頭文字と「＋」マークを合わせた言葉です。過去から現在に至るまで、LGBTQ+の存在は、私たち社会の少数派（マイノリティ）として、司法・人権・医療福祉・教育など多方面において様々な課題に直面していました。これまで長年に渡り社会において可視化されにくく、声なき存在として人々に認識されにくい状況におかれていたLGBTQ+の存在が徐々に可視化されつつあります。彼らを取り巻く人権侵害や差別に人々が気付くきっかけとなった大きな出来事が、1972年7月1日にロンドンで開催された初のイベント「プライド・パレード」でした。約2,000人が参加したと言われるこのイベントは、後にLGBTQ+の法的権利を求める社会運動へと広がりを見せる一大転機となりました。以後、世界的規模で様々なイベントやメディア等をとおしてLGBTQ+が直面している不利益、差別、孤立や孤独など種々の課題が徐々に表面化し、彼ら少数派をどのように社会の一員として包摂し、個人やLGBTQ+コミュニティーのアイデンティーが尊重される社会を構築していくべきかと言った議論が交わされ続けています。LGBTQ+を取り巻く状況下においては、依然として賛否両論が存在していることも事実です。1972年にロンドンで初めて開催された「プライド・パレード」から紆余曲折を経た現在、同イベントは、英国全土のLGBTQ+コミュニティーをつなぐ希望ある未来と連帯を唱える華やかに彩られた祭典であり、その50周年を記念する「50 Years of Pride」コインがロイヤルミントによって初めて発行されました。正にイギリス連合王国の英断により発行された当コインにはLGBTQ+への敬意が込められており、法的権利を求めるLGBTQ+の社会運動の意義を現代の私たちに投げかけてきます。</p>\r\n

<p>プライドムーブメントの歴史を祝福し、また、ムーブメントを支えてきた人々を象徴する当コインは、既存の政治や社会に対して変革を求めてきた歴史とLGBTQ+コミュニティーの不屈の精神を表しています。コイン表面にエリザベス2世の第5肖像が描かれていますが、これは、Pride UKの歴史や活動、そして、50周年の祭典が公式に認められていることを表しています。当コイン裏面には、プライド・フラッグのモチーフである6色の虹が五つ描かれており、それぞれにPride UKを象徴するキーワード（PRIDE:誇りUNITY:連帯 PROTEST:抗議 EQUALITY:平等 VISIBILITY:可視性）が刻印されています。虹は幸運の象徴と言われており、「困難な出来事の後には、きっと良いことがやってくる」といったメッセージを伝えています。また、裏面の下部には、フィラデルフィア・フラッグに見られる有色人種や性別を暗示する彩りのデザインが施され、LGBTQ+の社会運動の意義だけではなく、地域・社会・国に根強く存在する人種差別やジェンダーの問題も私たちに問いかけていると言えます。2015年9月に国連で開催された持続可能な開発サミットにおいて、「誰一人取り残さない」持続可能で多様性と包摂性のある社会の実現を目指し、2030年を達成期限とした17の目標が設定されました。これらの中には、性別・人種・ジェンダーの平等の実現が目標とされており、特定のグループが差別されないこと、全ての人が平等に司法を利用することが唱えられています。この国連による目標が反映されていると見受けられるような当コインですが、エリザベス女王と表裏一体となったコインを通してLGBTQ+コミュニティーが祝福されていると同時に、多様性と共生について認識し、それらがより容認される社会のあり方を私たちに問いかけているように思われます。王立造幣局と「ロンドン・プライド」のコラボレーションによって生み出された50 Years of Pride UK 50ペンスコインは、LGBTQ+の不屈の精神と情熱が込められた異色の力作と言っても過言ではないでしょう。</p>
