<p>1861年に急逝した夫アルバートのために、長期間に渡る服喪期間を設けていたヴィクトリア女王。夫亡き後に悲嘆にくれる英国女王の前に姿を現し、また時には友人として女王を支えた人物こそは、英国首相として<strong>女王の治世を補佐した名宰相ベンジャミン・ディズレーリ（1804年―1881年）</strong>その人でした。</p>\r\n
<p>紆余曲折の人生の果てに英国首相の座を我がものとした立身出世の人ディズレーリは、その人間的な温かみとユーモアのセンスによって女王の寵愛を手中に収めます。若き日には小説家になることを夢見ていた芸術家肌のディズレーリですが、<strong>1868年に首相となった時には既に64歳でした。</strong>当初、ディズレーリに対して心を閉ざしていた女王でしたが、個人的にディズレーリの書いた小説に興味を抱いたことがこの君主と臣下の良好な関係を築くきっかけであったと言われています。<strong style="background-color: #fffad7;">女王の寵愛を得てビーコンズフィールド伯爵位</strong>を授与されたディズレーリの政界での権勢は止まるところを知らず、政敵グラッドストーンのそれをはるかに上回るほどでした。インドの女帝の称号を手に入れることによって「インペリアル」の称号を強く所望していたヴィクトリアの願いを叶えたこともディズレーリの功績でした。議会の反対を押し切ってこれに関する法案を可決し、女王にインド女帝の称号を献上するに至ります。女王の在位50周年「ゴールデンジュビリー」を前に、1881年には世を去ることになるディズレーリでしたが、女王自身はそれ以後も悲しみを乗り越えて生き永らえ、1887年のゴールデンジュビリーに次いで1896年にはダイアモンドジュビリーを迎え、それぞれの時点における<strong style="background-color: #fffad7;">英国史上最長在位を更新し続けます。</strong></p>\r\n
