<p>現在、中国にある数十カ所の自然保護区で「危惧種」として保護されているパンダですが、<strong style="background-color: #fffad7;">古来パンダは、平和の使者および友好の象徴として、中国から海外諸国へ贈与されてきました。</strong>「パンダ外交」の歴史は、遥か遠い<strong>唐の時代</strong>に遡ると言われています。外国との架け橋として「パンダ外交」が世界各国の注目を集めてきました。</p>\r\n
<p>その一例として、1970年初頭、アメリカとの国交樹立の際に中国が贈ったパンダは、その愛らしい容姿としぐさから人気を博し、<strong>東西冷戦の雪解けに対し著しい貢献を果たしました。</strong>象徴としてのパンダが、政治や国際交流の一翼を担ってきたことはパンダの故郷である中国にとって実に誇りとすべきことであると言えます。</p>\r\n

<p>東アジアの情勢を大きく揺るがし、歴史の流れを変えた日中戦争の終戦から半世紀以上もの時を経た1972年、日中共同声明を通して、中国との国交が遂に正常化しました。同年10月に、日中友好の証として中国から贈られた2頭のパンダ、<strong>「カンカン」</strong>と<strong>「ランラン」</strong>がはじめて来日し、上野動物園に贈与され、注目を集めたことが記録に残っています。愛らしさに満ちた天真爛漫なカンカンとランランは、たちまち多くの日本人を虜にし、パンダフィーバーが巻き起こるほどの人気を博しました。</p>\r\n
